white woman with black swimming costume standing in the sea. A wave is coming towards her.

Linda* founded and runs her own organisation in the not-for-profit sector. Here’s what she had to say about being part of the do good and do well experience.

I joined the programme at a time in my life where I felt tired, stressed and depleted. I was questioning my working direction in life especially my work and life balance. As a changemaker, my health was suffering due to giving too much.

I thought the process might lead me to feeling vulnerable and out of my depth but it felt like the right moment considering others things happening in my life around the same time. It felt like a moment to try and make sense of the present.

The programme helped me to prioritise my health and my own creativity. I am doing things that bring me joy. One of the biggest takeaways was learning about my core values and the impact of this on me when others don’t share them. I truly live my values so in the workplace when they are challenged or questioned, I have always wondered why I take things to heart. I always thought that I was particularly sensitive and defensive but knowing this about myself now, it’s a comfort. I also learnt that there are other people similar to me out there. Sharing our experience and feelings helped me to feel understood.

I have definitely formed new habits. I am prioritising my time, for example, taking time off work and booking a long trip to see my family without worrying about work that’s not even booked in the diary!

Prioritising my health has been a revelation. I’ve been to the GP and organised care to support me through menopause which has impacted positively on all sorts of areas of my life.

I’m regularly sea swimming, walking, saying no, taking HRT and really starting to feel my health improve. I’m also prioritising my own creativity through attending new workshops and getting to know new people. My partner and friends have seen a real difference in my general mood and wellbeing.

If you’re thinking of being part of the Do Good and Do Well Experience, I would say this to you.

Sarah is a wonder! I really enjoyed her coaching style – it was gentle yet probing and helped me to delve deep into better understanding myself. I always felt ‘held’ when issues were discussed that made me feel vulnerable, which was really important for me. I thoroughly enjoyed the group experience and it was insightful to meet other changemakers. It was a place where I felt safe, understood and heard. Over the six months, I took small actions to prioritise my health and my creativity and am now at a place where I am feeling well both mentally and physically.

The programme has made me more determined and dedicated to spend more time working on my own projects and ideas and less time on other organisation’s projects. It is always a juggling act but now it’s about getting the balance right for me.

All these things can happen for you too.
